Rosa mexicano [mEh-hee-kah-no], or Mexican pink, is a vivid and saturated purplish pink tone of the color rose.

It was in 1949 when designer Ramón Valdiosera, backed by then President Miguel Alemán, created a collection inspired by the bougainvillea and traditional clothing and traveled to New York for a fashion show. .

The overall proposal was so vibrant and daring and when Valdiosera was interviewed about his color choice he noted that it was already part of Mexican culture. That it existed in houses, clothes, indigenous art, flowers, toys, breads. and candy. Someone then pointed out that this must be a “mexican pink,” as it only existed in Mexico and its people loved it. And the rest is history.

The color has transcended so much that it became the standard color of Mexico City, and today it is not only found in art and clothing, but also in its taxis, credentials, offices and official documents, making it clear that if there is a color capable of uniting the Mexican people, it is this vibrant pink.
